I Had an "Aha!" Moment, YES! I Knew it Would Happen Someday!

Today I did something very impulsive. I bought an impractical pair of shoes online. They were on sale however, so I know I’m not having a nervous breakdown. But still, I am asking myself; Megan… Why did you buy a pair of Pretty Woman hooker boots online today?

I reflect. Every day I wear the same thing. Cutoffs, a brightly colored t-shirt, and flip flops.Hang on though, let me translate this for my Buffalo people; Jeans, a brightly colored long sleeve t-shirt, Ugg boots.
This is all I have worn for the past 4 years. It has gotten so bad, that once when I put on ballet flats and a khaki Capri pant, my husband looked at me funny, like I was expecting him to take me out.
Anyway, the point is I have no reason to go out and buy these trampy boots. Where the heck could I possibly wear them? To the park? Its a million degrees outside. To the mall? They don’t look too comfortable to walk in. To a playdate? I’m going to look a bit ridiculous when my daughter won’t leave the playground and I end up chasing her up the slides with four inch heels.
I feel as though I had an opposite life moment. If you’ve never had one of these moments, it’s when you purchase something that represents what you want your life to look like.
I totally saw this on Oprah. (Aha! moment here.)

It is similar to when people go out and buy a ton of gourmet cooking supplies and then shove them in their closets and never use them. They just thought if they bought the items, they would magically become that kind of person, the person who cooks gourmet and has fabulous Barefoot Contessa types of dinner parties.
So obviously, my subconscious was thinking; Hmm, if I buy these trampy hooker boots I will magically have a place to wear them.
Well that place will probably be Chili’s, on a date night. But it’s not getting more interesting than that. At least Bre will have something new to try on when she plays dress up in my closet.

  1. They do look fun! I would probably go for the tall boot with no heel though, my dh is shorter than me. :) (add a follow plugin to your site btw)
